Atelier Reboot

In conjunction with the Festival de la Cité, Cie Courant d'Cirque (Valais, Switzerland) and Cie d'Elles (Toulouse, France) are organising a critical workshop as part of Reboot, an international collaborative project that aims to question postures, pedagogies and transmissions in the performing arts in order to develop caring and inclusive practices and revolutionise the aesthetics of tomorrow.

Reboot is based on 3 central questions:

  • How can we make visible and raise awareness of the systemic discrimination and oppression at work in the circus and street arts sector?
  • How can we raise awareness of physical and psychological violence throughout the profession and encourage people to speak out?
  • What resources are available to counter the violence that has a lasting impact on artists' careers?
  • These questions will be dissected in workshops and panel discussions in Switzerland and France over the next two years.

The critical observation workshop at the Festival de la Cité will be led by Cyrille Roussial, who teaches critical analysis at the École nationale des arts du cirque in Rosny-sous-Bois (FR). He will share analysis tools and guide participants through a selection of 6 shows on 7 and 8 July. The workshop will be attended by 12 people from a range of performing arts backgrounds, including professionals, students and members of the general public. There will also be discussions with the artists.
