Filled with nostalgia for an era she did not experience, Katerina Andreou created Rave to Lament: a fleeting, unique and impulsive gesture that, rather than looking to the past, seeks to be part of the present. To this end, she came into contact with Voltnoi Berge, who witnessed the transformation of the (sub)urban scene in Athens from 1989 onwards, influenced by the rave culture of the United States and England, as well as by house and techno music. Rave to Lament oscillates between invocation, celebration and lamentation of a vanished culture.
This performance will take place during the after-party on Saturday evening, blurring the lines between party and performance. A second performance will take place on Sunday at 5pm, mixing the ghosts of the play with those of the previous evening.
Born in Athens, Katerina Andreou is based in France. In her work she seeks states of presence that result from a constant negotiation between contrasting and even contradictory tasks, fictions or universes, often questioning the notions of authority and censorship. She creates the sound environments of her pieces herself. She received the Jardin d'Europe award at the ImpulsTanz festival in 2016 for her solo A kind of fierce. She went on to create BSTRD (2018), Zeppelin Bend (2021), Rave to Lament (2021), and Mourn Baby Mourn (2022).
